A landmark Birthday — 30!!!

It was Turtle‘s 30th Birthday yesterday, many happy returns to her, and I hope she enjoyed herself!

JS bought and made a website for her, with a blog that had the name “Turtle’s Travels”. She is a keen traveller, and he thought she needed a way to keep in touch with the rest of the family when she was off on her journeys.

To go with this, I decided to adapt this pattern, and create two turtles for her, with number of buttons indicating age. The first has three buttons, and the second has none. When I was making them up, I thought 2 seemed a bit bland – so I daisy-chain-stitched a spiral onto it, and then went crazy with seed-beads.

I attached magnets to their flippers so they can be used as fridge magnets — the worst thing about these ‘amiguru’ style toys is that grown people often have so much trouble working out what to do with them! I thought this made the ideal solution.

I also decided to make her some of the now very popular hand-warmers, which have already made two previous appearances in the space of the last six weeks. I went all-out this time, with a crochet edging and buttons taken from Wonder-Mum the Second‘s stash, following a visit to Kentlast weekend. This was largely because of the reaction she had to the most recent pair I made.

Anyway, now I’ve run out of knitting projects to work on – apart from the secret project that I keep mentioning, which is nearing completion. I want to make myself a red cardigan which is long enough to go over my bum (I hate it when my top pulls up and my back gets all cold at the join between trousers and top). I’m not sure what pattern/yarn to use. I’ve never tried to knit one — but I’m quite good at learning new patterns/picking up new stitches, so I’m sure I’ll find something.

Any knitters got any good suggestions for me?

That’s all for now. I’m going to work on some other crafty projects, which don’t really include knitting — or if they do, in the most abstract way, so I might be fairly quiet on a blogging front for a while. (I can hear your sigh of relief, haha!)

Much love,

Corrie xx
