Today’s WIP is not knitting – I’ve been making hexagons by the dozen for a quilting project, and all thoughts of knitting have been driven clean out of my mind. (That’s not strictly true – I’m visiting JS at the moment and purposefully didn’t bring any yarn because I knew I wouldn’t get any hexagons done otherwise!)
I’m celebrating being in London with new hair. What do you think?!
HEXAGONS – the Amazings
Having always wanted to make something quilted, I was absolutely thrilled when I discovered an online tutorial on The Amazings, with teacher Virginia, where she teaches one how to hand-sew a quilt. I started making it about a month ago, and was not making much progress, but now that I’ve removed knitting from my immediate vicinity, I’m having all the fun with my hexagons.
I think I’ve made about 30 or 40 at the moment, with loads more on their way. I’ve cut about two hundred out, I just have to sew them, and have a couple more pillow cases to cut. One of the best things about this is where my pillow cases have been affected by wet hair (I go to bed without drying it, sorry) I can just cut the stained patches out. Fantastic!
While I was at uni I had a few specific duvet covers or pillow cases that I loved – I’m now using them as my base fabric so I will end up with a quilt that has been made from my uni days bedding. It’s made the whole thing cheap (hurrah) and is also allowing me the think about replacing my linen. (JS and I are totally going to have a TARDIS duvet…)
The colours don’t go together fabulously, but I will get over it – I’m quite a sentimental loon and I’m enjoying doing one of those memory projects that I’ve been storing for, instead of all the things just sitting in a box under my bed.
I’ll do a more in-depth review of the Amazings online classes on Saturday (they were very generous and gave me some of their classes to try out), but if you would like to have a look at what classes they have, you can use this link to get one of them for free!
That’s all from me for today. (Oh, except, you only have five days to enter the fantastic signed Knitters Bible giveaway! Share to get more entries.)
