Color Affection KAL

The last time I posted about the Color Affection KAL that I’m participating in (as part of an iMake KAL), I had just received my yarn and was getting ready to cast on the following day. There was a bit of confusion over needles following that. It was rather unfortunate – my second Knit Pro needle had been snapped, so I couldn’t use the interchangeables, and I didn’t have another set of 3 mm circular needles to hand.

Color Affection update

It was a good excuse to visit my local Hobbycraft, and I was remarkably restrained while there, leaving with only a Kitkat and a set of 3.5 mm aluminium needles. I’m unimpressed with the needles – I have been trying to replace all of my cheap metal needles with bamboo ones, and I didn’t enjoy having to buy another set. However, I sucked it in, bought them, and cast on.

I’m now a fair amount of the way into the first set of stripes in the shawl. I have a problem, though. The yarn is so fine, and I have at some point managed to pull on one of the loops in the garter stitch, creating this monstrosity.

But just look at it now :(
But just look at it now :(

I’ve tried to manipulate the surrounding fabric to get rid of it with no luck – I’ve just managed to create more holes. Argh!! I’m hoping that when I block it, it will come out. Has this ever happened to you? Please, please will someone tell me if there is a good way to do it?

I’m sorry about the lack of posts – I’ve been trying to get online but we are having so many problems in Kent, and I don’t really know what the solution is*. It’s a big problem, especially for JS‘ parents, who like to work from home occasionally.

Much love,

Corrie xx

I would keep manipulating the yarn trying to spread some of that slack around to surrounding stitches.

I would highly highly recommend buying a bunch of super cheap bamboo circulars from ebay. I love mine, and don’t know why anyone would spend more (but then I’m not a really serious knitter). The only teeny problem is that the tube comes off them sometimes, but you can just superglue it on and it will never budge :D And you get a set of 15 sized needles for about 15 bucks!!

I’ve got them! Hurrah. I’m going to finish knitting and see if blocking really severely helps. I spent a while manipulating the area around and that one spot is much better, but I have a few other holes as a result of the manipulating. If that doesn’t work, I’m sure I will be able to come up with a creative way to deal with it!
