The Liebster Award

I was nominated for a Liebster Award by Victoria of Vittoria Segreta – she is one of John’s oldest friends, and a fantastic crafter with some fibre to die for in her Etsy shop! Here follows the official blurb of this award, and my nominations for the other lovely blogs.

The idea is to broaden your blog reading horizons, and share the love around new or small blogs by nominating them for one of these:

The Liebster Award

If you’ve been nominated, you’ve been noticed and appreciated by your nominator, and probably some other people that you weren’t expecting as well!

The rules are as follows:

  1. Post 11 random facts about yourself
  2. Answer 11 questions the awarding blogger has asked
  3. Nominate 11 blogs with a small-ish following – try to find some new ones, add their links to this post, and let them know that they have been nominated
  4. Create 11 questions the nominated blogs have to answer
  5. (Post these rules!)

Random Facts

  1. I have three tattoos – an elephant on my ankle, flowers on my foot and a bumblebee on the inside of my wrist.
  2. I am truly a child of the Harry Potter Generation, and have a strong emotional relationship with the series.
  3. I buy notebooks when I don’t need them. I keep having to donate my spares to charity shops; it doesn’t stop me buying them.
  4. I fractured my coccyx over five years ago and am still unable to sit still on hard surfaces for a long time. As I type this I know that when I move I will get shooting pains down my legs because I have been still for too long.
  5. I have wanted to be a published author since the age of nine.
  6. My car is covered in leopard spots.
  7. My first cat was called Mazda. He was found in a car engine as a kitten.
  8. I play the violin. I did Grade 8 with the ABRSM and go through periods of wondering whether I should do a diploma.
  9. I get my impulsivity from my mum.
  10. My dad has shared his stubbornness with me (this is a good thing, we Get Things Done).
  11. I would like to learn to walk and knit at the same time for extended periods of time so I can exercise while I knit.

Victoria’s Questions:

1. What was the thing that finally tipped you over the edge and made you start your blog?

I had just graduated, and as an official student blogger for my university was no longer allowed to blog for them. I needed to keep up the habit as it had become part of my daily life, and nobody cared about what I got up to anymore – so I fixed on knitting as the topic. Impulsivity made me do it. I went from idea to first post within less than 24 hours – including a survey of over 100 names that my friends completed to help me choose.

2.  If you could have any new discovery (new species, new planet etc) named after you, what would you like it to be?

A plant that produces medication that will be a cure for depression.

3. Is the thing you blog about something you just do for fun, or do you also pursue a career in the field? If the former, would you ever consider the latter?

I do it for fun, but would love to own an LYS. Or a yarn mill. A small flock of rare breed sheep for fleece? Or a farm with many sheep. Or all of the above!

4. What is your greatest consumer weakness? The one thing that you just have to buy if you see it, regardless of necessity.

I would say yarn but I think it’s probably apps on the Apple Store. If I see a great app I’m terrible at resisting it – especially if they only cost 69 pence!

5. What is your absolute favourite food? Be as specific as you like.

Scrambled Eggs. I could live off them. Every time we have scrambled eggs (at least once a week), I wax lyrical about how much I love scrambled eggs. My conversations with John go something like this:

Corrie: Guess what?
John: You love eggs?
Corrie: Scrambled eggs are the GREATEST human invention.
John: You say that every time.

I’m normally a bit sillier than that. It’s hard to convey in words, maybe I’l have to record us having breakfast for a podcast one day!

6. What is the most exciting new thing you’ve learned this week?

I learned about short row shaping! I have known the basic concept of it for ages but finally decided to research exactly what it is.

7. If you could visit anywhere – fictional or real – for the day, where would it be and why?

Mauritius. My parents honeymooned there and it just sounds like the most romantic and blissful place.

8. What superpower (I use the term in the loosest possible sense) would you like to have and what would you use it for? (Also, as an aside, would you keep it a secret, or would you tell everyone?)

I’m supposed to say something humanitarian here, but I’d like to be able to fly. I wouldn’t care if it was a secret or not!

9. In an ideal world, where nobody had to work for a living, what would you do all day?

Make stuff. It doesn’t matter what it is – if I really didn’t have to work to make money, I am assuming I would be super, super rich and I would start with making my house and work my way up to the bed linen! And I’d play with animals. Lots and lots of animals. And eat ice cream with my friends. (If I don’t have to work for a living, there’s no such thing as calories, right?)

10. Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met, and how did you meet them?

Boris Johnson! I was playing in a quartet at one of his book signings and he came up to us and told us we all must have brains the sizes of planets!

11. What is the one thing (however petty) absolutely guaranteed to wind you up?

People breaking my stuff/damaging my things/disrespecting me in some way that I will find out about and not ‘fessing up to it. I’m normally pretty relaxed about things like the above as long as I hear it from the responsible party first!
