Spinning progress! And, the Olympics…

Spinning has seen some progress in the last few days, with the fleeces washed (to some degree), and some spinning equipment sourced. First, though…

Olympics

I know that everyone is talking about the Olympics, so I’m going to join in. Very specifically:

What event do you think I’m taking Wonder-Mum to see for her birthday tomorrow?

I’m NOT going to take any knitting with me. I have it on good authority that your knitting gets taken away from you when you take it into the Olympic sites.

Is anybody else going to see anything?

Spinning

In other news — my fleeces arrived! I did some washing and drying, and have a beautiful wad of read-to-card wool. In the process of looking for some cheapish carders, I found a wonderful lady from Scotland (thanks to @RMWK) who has got a spinning wheel and other assorted equipment for sale. And, affordable.

Initially, my plan to get spinning was to use a drop-spindle. I’m not one to do things by halves though. When I was in Second Year at Uni, I bought a 30 litre fish-tank for my boyfriend at the time. Before the month was out, I had another which contained a mere 300 litres!

A drop-spindle is to a spinning wheel what the 30 litre tank is to the 300. I’ve learned my lesson — if I’m going to get a spinning wheel anyway, I may as well just do it.

I’m in the process of deciding if the budget can cope with it. I’m going to say yes…because I’m of the opinion that if you really want to make something happen, you can. And, because I really, really want it. What do you think?

I have to head off to put together some IKEA trestles now. Watch this space for more spinning updates, and please please please don’t forget to spread the news about the Disney giveaway!

Much love,

Corrie xx

Friday Inspirations – Mum

I suspect my writing style may change slightly over the next few weeks. I’ve been exploring my favourite ways of expressing myself, following a slight pause in my writing habits that (only) lasted eight years. So, I think I’ll probably get a bit more prosey over the next indeterminable period, and if anyone has any suggestions on ways I can improve myself, please do let me know!

This request leads us nicely on to todays Friday Inspirations. If you need to learn how to do something, who is normally the first person and best person to help you?

MUM!

Your mum may not have enabled you to be an Olympiad – but what do you think she helped you with the most over the course of your life?

My mum is definitely the star of all mum’s (sorry, I never did the ‘unbiased’ module of creative writing), having supported me through some really difficult and awful stuff in the last year, and despite not understanding some of my decisions, sticking by me anyway, and showing me that a mother’s love truly is unconditional.

Much love,

Corrie xx

Friday (Wednesday) Inspirations – Olympic Lions

Lionheart ProjectI know that a lot of people will probably be talking about this — so I’m jumping on the bandwagon. This would normally be a Friday Inspirations, but as I heard about it today I thought I should do a quick blog about it.

When London was announced as the location for the 2012 Olympics, Arts Council England commissioned 12 installations by local artists. One of these was the Lionheart Project, by Shauna Richardson, a crochetdermy legend.

I found out about it on the BBC during our morning news catch-up, through the following  video.

I can't embed the video so you'll have to go external for it!

This is the kind of story that really inspires me, so I thought I’d share! I love the recognition that fibre arts are currently getting in the media.

Here’s an interview with Shauna for you, beautifully shot and I love the music.

Much love,

Corrie xx
