It’s nearly 2 am. It is actually Wednesday — though to me, it’s Tuesday. I’ve been working on the company accounts all day, and nearly all night. I’ve had enough and decided to go to bed…but I can’t sleep until I’ve written this, because I know I’m not going to have time tomorrow, and I can’t miss a Work in Progress Wednesday now that I’ve decided to do this series.
I’m incredibly tired, so you can have a rather brief post about this. I’m working on some Plutonium Muffins…I hate the pattern I have, but I’m improving it all the time, hopefully. These are the first two — plus the assorted things I need to finish them.
I had a few questions for WIPW that I wanted to discuss: when does something stop being a WIP? Can something that isn’t a piece of knitting still be counted as a knitting WIP? When your WIP becomes an FO, what happens next?
Has anybody noticed the sheer amount of work JS put into helping me with back-end admin of the blog tonight? Why haven’t my photos uploaded so that I can publish this and finally close my eyes? When will people sign up to the Plutonium Muffins newsletter!?
I plan to talk about all of these, at some point. Just….not now.

A WIP is no longer a WIP when it’s finished. And finished is when you decide that’s it, you’re not doing more. Once it’s an FO you post to Finished Object Fridays at Tami’s Amis so that we can all ooh and aah.
My FOs are usually then worn, given away, put in the Christmas knitting pile or sent to whichever charity wants them.

1 For an WIP to become an FO you need permission from the knitting Goddess, Purl. Only she can allow WIPs to become FOs. She’s a tricky lady, so sacrifices of sleep and eating are required. Her BFF Karma will sometimes be sent out to knitters to bedevil them. Just when you think you are done, Karma happens. Or, you are actually done with the steps required to accomplish the project.
2 Well, working on eating a meal isn’t WIP worthy, but if you want to use that, the more the merrier.
3 When your WIP grows up to be an FO all kinds of lovely things happen. They name a city for you and hand over the keys to city hall. You are feted at a gala with many celebrities in attendance. People bow down when you pass by. Or maybe that’s when you return from a space mission. I don’t know, I get the two confused.
4 Hmm, since this is the first time I have visited your blog I can’t say I noticed, but if you want me to lie, I’m game. “Wow, look at the awesome changes JS did!!”.
5 Yes, photos. They fall under the purview of the God, Kodak. If he is in a snit because Purl won’t go out with him, all hell breaks loose.
